INDIA DIPLOMACY: Modi Balances Russia, China and Global Security

<p data-start="16" data-end="421">India used the BRICS platform to project a balanced and independent diplomatic strategy, strengthening its strategic partnership with Russia, maintaining dialogue with China, and building a collective stand against terrorism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that India is not aligned against any particular bloc but seeks cooperation while keeping national interests and security at the forefront. A major focus was the Pahalgam terror attack, which was condemned in the New Delhi Declaration along with terrorism in all its forms, terror financing and providing safe havens to terrorists. The declaration also called for collective action against terrorist organisations, highlighted concerns over unilateral tariffs and trade restrictions, and stressed the need to prevent wars, nuclear confrontation and rising global tensions. Another key issue was UN Security Council reform. PM Modi argued that global institutions must reflect today’s geopolitical realities and that the Global South should have a greater role in decision-making. India’s push goes beyond seeking a permanent UNSC seat; it calls for broader reforms to make global governance more representative and effective.</p>
