'It is time for...': Europe calls for new Arctic policy as Trump's Greenland takeover threat grows
The European Union is calling for a renewed Arctic policy as security and geopolitical challenges in the region intensify. At the Arctic Frontiers Conference in Norway, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas highlighted Greenland’s strategic importance, including critical raw materials, key submarine routes, and its position along the shortest flight path for Russian ballistic missiles. Kallas emphasised that while Greenland’s future belongs to Greenlanders and Denmark, the EU is pushing for a fresh Arctic strategy reflecting today’s security, environmental, and geopolitical realities.
